Members of Asansol Samithi assembled before the specially erected podium in front of the Office of the Asansol Municipal Corporation at 07-30 a.m. for the Swacchata Abhiyan. The podium had Swami’s and Mahatma Gandhi’s pictures placed side by side with a flex display of the Swacchta se Divtyata caption. 50 Gents sevadal and 35 mahila sevadal (which included gents and mahila youth also) from Asansol Samithi, adjoining Kulti and Kalla Bhajan Mandalis joined the seva. A few devotees and former SSSIHMS patients from Jamuria and Dhakeswari areas also joined. 32 Bal Vikas students carried flex posters with Swami’s and Gandhiji’s messages and kept moving along the entire stretch of road which was being cleaned. Parents of Bal Vikas Students also joined the programme. Some of the Sevadal members wore flex coats on top of their dress with the Swacchta se Divtyata caption. All participants had brought the cleaning equipments from their homes and the enthusiasm was palpable in their smiling faces throughout the event. After lighting of the auspicious lamp by the Samithi Convenor, the BV Students and members joined the song Vaisnnava Jana Te which was played on a portable PA system. Swami’s message on Cleanliness and Gandhiji’s message on Swacchata were read out. The volunteers thereafter, sang the bhajan Om Tat Sat Sri Narayan Tu before breaking down into smaller groups which were placed under the care of a group leader who led them to seva sites. The seva was undertaken covering a length of about one kilometre from the Municipal Corporation to Asansol Railway Station. The area being a busy area of the city, the seva work generated a lot of inquisitiveness from the passers-by. Some of the pedestrians requested the sevadal members to lend them their brooms for sometime so that they could also participate in and support the initiative.
